Bangkok and Central Region
When you fly into Bangkok, you are arriving at one of Asia's great cities. This bustling, dynamic metropolis is the pulsing heart of Thailand whose beats were the driving force behind the country's outstanding economic development. It is a modern city of towering office blocks, ribbons of expressways, teeming traffic and a Sky train, the elevated mass transit system that threads its way above
Bangkok's main thoroughfares. Yet alongside these futuristic trimmings lie the ancient traditions that visitors love so much - glittering temples and palaces, barefoot monks in orange robes, old wooden buildings, and ceremonies like the magnificent Royal Barge procession on the River of Kings.

Eastern Region
In the East is a long coastal plain that runs from k4 Bang Saen, near Chon Buri, past the naval headland of Satthahip all the way to Trat at the Cambodian border, with a series of incredible beaches and two popular marine national parks of Ko Samet and Ko Chang along the way. All the activity - for golfers and those who love sea sports - happens at Pattaya, Thailand's most famous beach resort and now centre of many industrial activities along the Eastern Seaboard. This once small fishing village is now a major resort with an excellent range of accommodation, accessible from Bangkok in less than two hours thanks to new fast motorways.

Western Region
The journey west begins in Kanchanaburi, a scenic province where eco-tourism runs wild in the province's northern mountains. Here there are superb national parks, two massive dams - Khao Laem and Sri Nakharin - forming reservoirs that attract visitors to their rafts and small bungalows, plus rivers, waterfalls and caves throughout the forests.

Northern Region
The mountains and forests of northern Thailand are a frequent reminder of how beautiful nature can be. Here are pristine areas where elephants and wild animals still roam, where numerous ethnic hill peoples live unchanged lives in isolated upland communities. While the cosmopolitan cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provide fascinating attractions and excellent accommodation for visitors.

North Eastern Region
North Eastern Thailand is a large elevated plateau, an ancient land where prehistoric man and dinosaurs once strode, and where timeless Khmer ruins and revered temples stand testament to the region's great history. The road into the Northeast winds through Pak Chong to Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat, passing the major golf courses listed in this Directory, only two to three hours from Bangkok. Small hotels offer accommodation near the courses, while Korat and its luxury hotels is an excellent base for discovering the beauty of the region.

Southern Region
The long peninsula leading down to Malaysia offers some of Thailand's most stunning scenery, from the mountains and dense forests of the hinterland in great parks like Khao Sok and Khao Luang to the magnificent islands, like Samui and Phuket, that have become vacation legends.
